Biography:

Gloria Miller Allen AWS NWS TWSA KA WW NWWS

Born in Kansas, Gloria Miller Allen has lived in Idaho since 1974, with her husband Tony, and their four (now grown) children. She is a life-time painter whose love of watercolors started in grade one, and has grown into a full time occupation.  She teaches workshops around the country. Her book,  "I THINK ~ THEREFORE I ART" was published in 2012, and is available on amazon.com   Her Second Book was published in 2014 and is not an instruction book, but more of a coffee-table book.  "FOUR DECADES OF PAINTINGS AND POEMS"  is exactly that.  Both books are available through Gloria.

In 1977, she started entering state and regional competitions. In 1986, she was accepted into her first National Exhibition, and in 1991, her first International Show. To date, her work has been included in over 55 national and international exhibits. She holds signature membership in The American Watercolor Society, The National Watercolor Society, The Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor West, The Northwest Watercolor Society and Knickerbocker Artists USA, as well as several state watercolor societies.

Gloria always has great variety in her choice of subjects.  It might be a pile of rocks, a patch of grass, a crowd of people, an animal, or simply a chair; but whatever the subject, the main interest is always 1) design, 2) value (light & dark) and 3) color-in that order. Currently there is a strong interest in doing large oversize pieces.  Although her main media is purely transparent watercolor, she produces one or two serigraphs a year and occasionally works in pastel, acrylic, or mixed-media.

Her art education consisted primarily of keen observation, many books over many years, and thousands of hours spent at painting.  Although she considers herself to be self-taught, in that she has no formal art education since high school, she has enjoyed wonderful workshops (usually 3 days each) with many great painters.   She credits a strong foundation in value structure to the time spent in the 60's working for Hallmark Cards Litho Art Dept. in Kansas City, Kansas.
